A Holiday Guide to Tax Deductions

The Holiday season is a great time to not only count our blessings, but to keep in mind those less fortunate. It's the season for giving, and if you plan on donating this Christmas let's talk about how you can make those donations count around tax time as well.

1) Make sure you keep documentation and receipts of all cash, and non-cash donations.

2) Have accurate, and detailed lists of any non-cash donations you give.  You should also take pictures and document cash values.

3) If you are hoping to claim the donation as a tax deduction, make sure you are choosing qualified charitable organizations.  Below is an online resource to check out charities you are considering, keep in mind that churches, synagogues, temples, and mosques, are considered charitable organizations and are eligible for deductible donations even though they may not be on the list:
