One of the best pieces of news from the American Tax Relief Act that was passed on January 2, 2013, is the extension of the college credit known as the American Opportunity Tax Credit (AOTC).  This credit was due to expire with the filing of the tax returns for 2012 was extended for 2013-2018.  Please note, however, that it is only applicable for four years per student.
